SAT Question of the Day Explained – March 4, 2014 – Identifying Sentence Errors

Today’s SAT question of the day is an identifying sentence errors question about The Simpsons! That’s about as fun as the SAT gets, so enjoy it.

Let’s check each underlined section….

A, B, and C are all fine – they match the subject in number and tense. D has something strange going on: “…it transformed the way both the audiences and television programmers view the animated sitcom.” “Both” has to go with “and” in this situation – and it must go alone.  “The” can’t tag along the way it has been written in this sentence, so D is the correct answer choice.

“Both the” can be grammatically correct, but not when it coordinates with “and”. Remember to keep the information in the underlined sections in context, as it will sometimes coordinate with information that is not underlined.
