SAT Question of the Day Explained – March 24, 2014 – Sentence Completion

Today’s SAT question of the day is a sentence completion about the Red Tail Angels. This group of fighter pilots had the ____ of never losing any bombers it escorted on missions. We can tell that the blank needs to be a positive word – it’s a good thing that they didn’t lose any of the planes they were escorting. A word like “honor” would probably fit well.

This question is rated easy, so hopefully “distinction” popped out as meaning something like honor when you looked at the answer choices.

If you thought the prediction was something like “duty”, note that both assignment and imperative appear in the answer choices.  There is only one right answer for each question on the SAT, so if you see two synonyms like these in the answer choices for a sentence completion, know that you need to refine your prediction, because neither of these can be right since they’re so similar.
