SAT Question of the Day Explained – October 3, 2014 – Writing, Identifying Sentence Errors

Today’s SAT Question of the Day is a writing multiple choice question about bicycle helmets…and verbs.  Take a look and you should hear the error right away….

The law requires them to _____ helmets.  Did you hear it?

Yep! That should say “to wear” helmets, not “to have been wearing”.  The law has to be present tense here – it wouldn’t make sense for a law to be enacted that checked whether cyclists have been wearing helmets or not.

Verbs are such a common topic on the SAT writing sections, so always give them a second look.
