SAT Question of the Day Explained – October 6, 2014 – Improving Sentences

In today’s SAT question of the day, we are dealing with Viking ships and comparisons.

Archaeological evidence shows that Viking ships were lighter, slimmer, and faster than that in England.

How would a correct version of this sentence read?We could end the sentence with “than those in England”…a reference back to the ships (plural). Unfortunately, this direct fix isn’t an option in the answer choices, but there IS a very similar chose: “than those used by the English.”  This clause corrects the that/those number error and does not introduce any new errors. D is the correct answer…D for Done!
