Today’s ACT reading question comes from the social science passage about the medieval justice system (other questions about this passage have appeared on February 4, January 19, and January 15 so far). Let’s see how trial by battle differs from trial by compurgation and ordeal in England.
Trial by battle appears in lines 17-18, and again in lines 60-71. The answer to this question is actually best seen in the first brief mention, which tells us that the Normans brought this type of trial to England. B, then, is our answer today for this detail question.
Remember that if we are told something is to be answered according to the passage, we need to stick to what the passage itself says.
