SAT Question of the Day Explained – February 9, 2014 – Math, Algebra

Today’s SAT question of the day is an easy algebra question.  Here’s the situation:

N * (5/14) = (5/14) * (7/9)

Naturally, they want to know what N equals.

What do both sides have in common?  Right away, we can spot 5/14 on each side of the equation – so we can cancel those out.  That leaves:

N = 7/9

Amazingly, that is an answer choice (A).  It really is that easy! We didn’t even have to do any arithmetic to get to our answer – just a little crossing out.  Don’t overthink easy problems like this one – enjoy them!
