Today’s SAT question of the day is an improving sentences question that compares us to dogs. (Some Valentine’s Day bitterness, perhaps?) I am 99% certain that you will see this same error on your SAT several times, so let’s see what is wrong with this comparison.
As it is written, we are comparing a dog’s sense of smell to humans – not to a human’s sense of smell, but to all humans in general. We can’t compare a sense to a species, so the underlined one needs to change so that we are comparing apples to apples.
In this case, the underlined section is about humans, so it needs to be changed to something that refers to a human’s sense of smell. D accomplishes this perfectly!
We tend to speak with poor grammar, so it may take you a few tries to start hearing this error. Always check all comparisons to make sure that they are apples to apples!
